The Arkansas Derby and Blue Grass Stakes have given us a much better picture of the field for the Kentucky Derby. Unfortunately for some owners and trainers, their horses and jockeys were unable to live up to expectations.
Instead of coming away with a win, he finished last in the field of 10. The horse was unable to finish the race after Mike Smith, War Academy's jockey, said that the horse took "four or five really awkward steps" (via USA Today).
Not even being able to finish will upset many that put money on the favorite to win in Arkansas, but more people will be hoping that everything is ok with the horse.
A lot of people were expecting Uncaptured to continue the hot streak. In his last eight races before Saturday, he had won six of them. He had also finished in second at the Spiral Stakes back in March.
After taking a lead at the start of the race, Uncaptured began to slowly fall behind. He stayed in the front of the pack before eventually falling off by the end.
Things were looking really good for Rydilluc for the majority of the Blue Grass Stakes, but a late surge by Java's War, Place Malice and even Charming Kitten left Rydilluc in fourth place.
