Newcastle United on the fall - GiveMeFootball.com

After an underwhelming begin to the 2012/13 Premier League campaign, their league form slide has been seen by Newcastle United drastically, plummeting to as low as 17th in the league standings. A riled Alan Pardew combatted this by recruiting at least five participants in the January exchange screen, that are of French good, further increasing the French Revolution on Tyneside. Since January, Newcastle have observed their form improve, with the whole group lifted by Pardewas able and astute signings. Nevertheless, must Newcastleas rich vein of kind prove to be temporary, supporters may be comforted in the information that while the team is sliding down the table, they may soon have the option of sliding out of the stands. Center company NE1 Ltd has applied for permission to put in slides through the duration of different areas in Newcastle City Centre, with one of the supposed places being the Gallowgate conclusion of the St. Jamesa Surface. Whilst the slides have now been designed as a way of attracting attention and adding discussion as well as fun to the area, they also preserve an exceptionally practical use of alleviating congestion. Branded atravel acceleratorsa, the planned slides will permit visitors of Newcastle suits to gain access to the vehicle park and underground stop in a much faster manner than embarking down the long flight of steps which could often become rapidly crowded. The concept was already demonstrated to be a success in Holland, with individuals passing through Utrecht railway station via the slides to speed up their journey. It remains to be observed whether this fun and innovative strategy will get the go-ahead but the practicalities of applying atravel acceleratorsa are clear for all to see. Had they been in position for the 2008/09 year, it is a safe bet to express Kevin Keegan and Alan Shearer might have been enthusiastic supporters. Red Ron? Person United on alert after Robert Lewandowski's agent declines... - Mirror.co.uk

Cezary Kucharski states the Poland striker never stays longer than 2 yrs at any club - and he's in to his third at BvB Lars Baron Robert Lewandowski's agent has set Sir Alex Ferguson on red alert after declaring the striker will probably leave Borussia Dortmund come july 1st. The Manchester United employer observed Lewandowski last season before signing Shinji Kagawa from Dortmund and the Poland star stays firmly on his radar. Lewandowski is Dortmund's top scorer with 19 objectives in 27 games this season and his adviser Cezary Kucharski has suggested it's unlikely he will stay with the Bundesliga winners. Bayern Munich are also thinking about Lewandowski and Kucharski claims the hitman likes new issues. "Anyone who has adopted Robert's career may understand that he's never performed at any club for longer than two years," he said. "At Dortmund, he has been playing his next time. "Anyone who is able to read between your lines understands what that means." Lewandowski, 24, has 16 months left on his Dortmund contract and will be available for a knockdown fee of A18million in the summertime. Kucharski claims the Eastern European has determined his future and is waiting before the right moment to reveal his ideas. "Robert has made his decision," he explained. "He alone determines when he'll mention it" the moment.

Bradley, Clark the facial skin of the argument

MARANA, Ariz. (AP) a' Bruce Lietzke might have seen a banana inside the cover of his long club. One of many popular stories about Lietzke, a winner on the PGA Tour, is that he never touched a club when he wasn't on tour. His caddie did not consider him, so at the conclusion of the 1984 season, he put a strawberry inside the head cover of Lietzke's driver before zipping up the travel case. Some 15 weeks later at the Bob Hope Classic, the caddie desperately unzipped the travel bag. The smell should have been the first clue. "Sure enough, he pulled off that head cover and the banana... it was not yellow," Lietzke said Monday. "It was dark, awful, fungus. He said he'd never doubt me again." Lietzke confessed to when it came to the broom-handled putter he found at the Phoenix Open in 1991 and used the remainder of his career breaking his own rules. Even in his down-time, he'd tinker with along the club and practice with it. And he wonders what the conversation could have been like nowadays if that 1991 PGA Championship had turned out differently. Lietzke was the runner-up at Crooked Stick behind a big-hitting rookie named John Daly. Imagine if Lietzke had acquired that major. Would the USGA have banned the putter he anchored against his chest? "I feel so," Lietzke said. "Judging by their a reaction to important achievements, I guess they were just awaiting this to happen. The USGA should have made a record then. If I had won the PGA Championship, they may have tried to outlaw it. And if you look back on it, most people could have gone along side it." That was one of the arguments PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem help with Sunday when he explained the visit was against the proposed rule that would exclude the secured stroke mostly employed for long putters and belly putters. Without any scientific evidence an secured stroke now is easier, why bar it? And after all these years, why now? The faces in this discussion a' and that's all it's right now a are Keegan Bradley and Tim Clark, for significantly different reasons. It was Bradley's gain at the PGA Championship that prompted considerable speak about the future of secured strokes. Bradley now is lumped in with three of the last five main champions utilizing a belly putter, but he was the driver. European Tour leader George O'Grady said the conversations between golf's managers and the governing bodies about the future of the long putters began this past year at the Masters. That was before Webb Simpson won the U.S. Open and Ernie Els won the British Open, which ramped up the eye. For Clark? It had been his responsible talk at Torrey Pines that brought even the staunch opponents of long putters to look at them differently. As a game-changer multiple person in the space that evening has described his speech. That much was reflected in the overwhelming support from the Player Advisory Council and player-directors on the tour's policy board that the PGA Tour should oppose the USGA on this concept. The difficult part is finding out where this can cause. The PGA Tour sent the USGA a letter last week spelling out its opposition to Rule 14-1( t), and the PGA of America and its 27,000 membership benefits may also be contrary to the bar. One reason Finchem chose to discuss the letter a' a little diversion throughout the final of the Match Play Championship a was his concern that the conversation was being express as a series. Today, it is a matter of opinion. High noon isn't until the USGA and R&A decide whether to go ahead with the rule, when it becomes a showdown. And that choice won't come before the spring. It is a polarizing topic. If not, the governing bodies wouldn't have provided a 90-day comment period that ends on Thursday. They simply would have released a new rule and been done with it. For the time being, the trip hasn't said it'll go against the USGA. It has only said it disagrees with the USGA. Finchem decided to not show his hand when he brushed off questions about whether the trip could ever allow a secured stroke even when the governing bodies adopt a rule that prohibits it beginning in 2016. But he's made clear on at the least three instances that while slightly different rules might work for the PGA Tour, this rule wouldn't be one. This is not where tennis must go. The word appearing out of the USGA annual meeting earlier this month wasn't "bifurcation" but "unification." Go anywhere in the world and tennis successfully is performed by exactly the same set of rules. This is something that should not change. The USGA and R&A know they don't have evidence showing that having an secured stroke is simpler. Honestly, they don't need any evidence. This is not about gear, rather a fresh principle that attempts to establish the tennis stroke while the club moving freely. The error by the USGA was waiting until some body won a major before performing a' or thinking that winning a major should even make a difference. The majors are the biggest events to get. They determine careers. However if the belly club was a concern when Simpson won the U.S. Available, why was not it a problem when he won the Deutsche Bank Championship? Did the club work differently at Olympic? Lietzke can think of several occasions when nerves made him miss together with his long putter. And if the belly club may be the remedy, do not just look at Ernie Els getting that claret jug last summer at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. Look at these two putts Els badly missed on the last several holes of the Match Play Championship to get rid of in the opening round. If the USGA establishes that a ban on anchored strokes is best for the game, the PGA Tour should go along side it. And if the USGA was serious about that 90-day comment period, the hope is that it was serious about listening. Why? And why now?

Real Madrid want Michael Laudrup back - John Toshack - Daily Mail

When I look at Michael Laudrup, I don't see the Dane's face staring back at me. I see another naturally gifted footballer - possibly the best of his generation - one who turned into a manager of the highest calibre with one of the world's biggest clubs.

When I look at Swansea City's boss these days, I see Johan Cruyff. They were both wonderful players and the similarities as managers are stacking up.

Just like Cruyff, Laudrup has an aura. And there are similarities between what is happening at Swansea and what Cruyff did while Laudrup was a player under him at the Nou Camp.

There was nothing over-complicated about the Barcelona team who won the European Cup in 1992. They were simply good players who were relaxed and confident in themselves, their colleagues and the system they were playing.

In my experience, managers who have played at a high level don't look into the game too deeply. They don't need to do that.

There is an understanding of top players, of what makes them tick. Cruyff had it. Laudrup has picked up on that and run with it as a manager.

It is entirely understandable that the Swansea boss is being looked at by Real Madrid, where Laudrup played from 1994 to 1996. I know they are looking at him. There is interest. But would Laudrup want to break one of football's perfect marriages?

I don't know. Management is funny. The chance to manage Real Madrid doesn't come along too often. And, as happened when I left Sociedad for Madrid, you can always go back. I spoke to Michael a number of times while we were working as pundits on television.

He is a man of principle. He had issues at Mallorca. He wanted to quit but wouldn't walk out after a defeat. He waited until the team had won a game.

And where are Mallorca these days? Struggling. But while I believe Laudrup could manage in Madrid - and be very good at it - no praise is too high for Swansea City's directors.

And, much as I am enjoying Swansea's success, I have to say that it's been coming. Thirty years ago it was different. When I took charge, the Swans were in the Fourth Division.

But we had three diamonds - John Curtis, Jeremy Charles and the late Robbie James, God bless him. I used those players as the basis for our success and was promised £50,000 to spend after we were promoted. I brought two players in and gave the chairman £10,000 back.

Imagine that happening these days. We eventually came a cropper in the First Division. With five games to go, we were top.

But we ran out of steam - mind you, that train had been running for three-and-a-half years. For us, it was a ride on a magic carpet.

In that respect, it has been similar for the current side. And under the stewardship of chairman Huw Jenkins, Martin Morgan and the others, there is no reason why Swansea's success should end. What cost the club all those years ago was that we didn't have the security they enjoy these days. It's security they have worked for, mind you - and planned for.

The Swansea's midfielder, who has played an integral part in the club's rise through the four divisions, has been tipped for an England cap.

'He's a terrific player,' said Toshack. 'But I wonder if, at the age of 30, international football has passed him by. I think as a team Swansea operate better than their individual talents suggest.

'That includes Wayne Routledge, who has found it difficult to settle at a number of clubs but is playing his best football at Swansea.'

They will not waste the money from Liverpool for Joe Allen and Brendan Rodgers. It will be used to improve the club.

And what great strides they have taken. I walked into the club offices two weeks ago and saw all these people working away.

I don't know why I was surprised, but I was. It was a far cry from when Dolly, the lovely old girl who lived in the house next door to the Vetch Field, would make egg on toast for the players after training.

And now the club have qualified for Europe, which is wonderful. It's an achievement and should be celebrated, despite the heavy workload it brings. I've seen it happen to teams in Spain.

There is a minimum of six matches before Christmas, if you get through the qualifying campaign. Tony Pulis has commented about the negative impact it had on Stoke's Premier League campaign.

And it's true - an awful lot of planning needs to go into how you deal with the Europa League. But, let's face it, if you can't enjoy that challenge - playing in Europe after winning your first major trophy - what's the point?

And surely it is better to be planning for all the trappings that success brings than trying to fight your way out of the lower leagues. Swansea City have been there once. I don't envisage a return any time soon.

Chelsea FC boss Rafael Benitez admits he faces 'a fight ' to complete Top 4 - Crunchsports.com

Fulham businessman's 25 days of fancy dress for Comic Relief - Fulham Chronicle

WHAT with meteorites hurtling towards the planet and the Pope's resignation causing lighting bolts to strike the Vatican, you could be forgiven for thinking that the presence of a giant polar bear on the tube is just another sign of the seemingly inevitable end of days.

But on Friday (Feb 22) commuters found themselves faced not with a harbinger of doom, but rather the opposite as Fulham businessman Giles Dempsey brightened up the morning of many a bleary eyed traveller.

The 36-year-old is undertaking a mammoth fundraising effort to mark 25 years of Red Nose Day, by donning a different fancy dress costume every day for 25 days.

Prior to the polar bear, he had already brought smiles to the faces of strangers dressed as Buzz Lightyear, Pingu and Edward Scissorhands.

"Londoners are desensitized to everything," said the soon-to-be father-of-one, "we travel into work and just keep ourselves to ourselves but if you're dressed up as something like a polar bear or Buzz Lightyear, you can engage with people. I've brought a lot of smiles to people's faces and given a lot of hugs."

As a business director for the Fulham Broadway based marketing agency Billington Cartmell, Mr Dempsey is in and out of meetings, pitches and briefings all day, but fortunately colleagues and clients love the quirky and wonderful money spinning idea, as after day three he had already surpassed his £1,000 target.

He said: "I've got quite a few friends who have been on a few stag dos so they have kindly donated the costumes. It all came about because I wanted to celebrate 25 years of Red Nose Day, as it's such a brilliant charity.

"I did a charity event a few months ago and knew that I wanted to do something again. Everyone has been very supportive, including my wife Karen, who is 33 weeks pregnant.

"I'll not only be going on a romantic weekend away in fancy dress, but also attending my first NCT class in costume.

Birmingham Area compared to Chelsea FC Report - Goal.com Singapore

Roberto Mancini's public attack on his players paid quick dividends as Manchester City applied ChelseaAaside 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium. The champions' principal screen was rewarded with second-half objectives of real quality from Yaya Toure and change Carlos Tevez. The Ivorian's 63rd-minute operator came shortly after Joe Hart had atoned for clumsily conceding a punishment by releasing himself to his directly to keep out Frank Lampard's position kick. The Argentine made the win five full minutes from time to help City move clear of Chelsea in 2nd place and reduce Manchester United's lead at the very top back down to 12 points. Such is the dominance of the runaway leaders that the main fight is for the minor sites but Mancini's men confirmed that they're not just a fully reduced pressure by frustrating their main rivals for the runners-up place. Town have fallen short in the goalscoring department in 2010 and, after criticising a number of his players in an interview earlier in the day in the week, the Italian's solution was to spearhead Sergio Aguero with David Silva and a battery of midfielders. Toure, James Milner and Javi Garcia were supplemented by Jack Rodwell, beginning his first fit considering that the 3-1 home win over QPR on September 1. Chelsea, beginning only 64 hours after their draw in Prague on Thursday evening, rung the changes, with Demba Ba returning to the medial side as opposed to Fernando Torres. The visitors looked seasoned in the initial half as City poured forward in droves and at times threatened to tear them apart. The hosts' main tactical tactic was to target the best side of Chelsea's protection and take back sometimes Gael Clichy or Silva on the overlap to start a cross on to the head of one of their powerful, onrushing midfielders. Rodwell, specifically, made a series of outstanding incurs the box and his height was a real threat to the weight. The former Everton man might have had a hat-trick in the beginning half but Chelsea held firm via a mixture of last-gasp defending, the safe hands of Cech and some combined concluding. Five minutes to the second half, a Chelsea long baseball sent Ba bearing down on the Town goal. Despite being covered by Kolo Toure, Hart came rushing out to harass the Senegal striker, who left his foot in and was removed by the England No.1. The prize of a penalty was debatable however it could easily have now been prevented by Hart. With the complaint of Mancini without doubt ringing in his ears, the owner atoned for his error of judgement by flinging herself low to his directly to keep out Lampard's spot kick. Five minutes later, City's supporters had a lot more reason to observe. Toure collected the ball from Silva in the field, increased past two defenders and, confronted by the existence of Gary Cahill, opened up his human body to guide a perfectly created end past the understanding of Cech. It absolutely was a quite beautiful purpose, combining the power of a bulldozer with the accuracy of a surgeon. The overall game exposed as Chelsea looked for an equaliser but Benitez's team were too careless in property to cause City much angst. Your home area were paid because of their perserverance with a second goal after 85 minutes. Silva was once more the goal-maker, laying on the ball for Tevez to line himself up for a thunderbolt strike past Cech.

Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. Borussia Dortmund: Preview and TV ...

Borussia Dortmund travel to Borussia Park on Sunday where Marco Reus will play in Mönchengladbach for the first time since making the move last summer.

Marco Reus returns to face his old club for the first time since leaving last summer as Borussia Dortmund travel to Borussia Park to take on Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday. In the reverse fixture back in the end of September, BVB just demolished Gladbach to the tune of 5-0 in front of more than 80,000 at the Westfalenstadion.

Injuries and suspensions will play their part in making Sunday's affair a little less star-studded. Gladbach will be without midfielders Patrick Herrmann and Juan Arango, while BVB will miss forwards Robert Lewandowski and Julian Schieber. The four have combined for twenty five goals and twelve assists so far. BVB will also potentially be missing Jakub Blaszczykowski, and nobody really likes to see Kuba miss a game.

Gladbach have only won once in 2013, and it'll be a tough task for them to grab win number two against BVB. Dare I say a Herculean effort? Probably somewhere close to that. The fact that BVB will be throwing Reus onto the pitch is bad enough new for any opponent. The 23 year old has done some absolutely magical stuff on the field for BVB thus far, and every week it's more like that he'll "wow" you rather than get stopped by the opposition. Reus has fourteen goals to his name in all competitions, and he scored a hattrick the last time he played. He had two goals the last time these two sides faced.

The hosts need a solid first half to keep everyone focused on "Can Gladbach win this match?" instead of "Can Gladbach prevent a blowout?". If their "Back 7" play well, then Gladbach stand a shot here. It obviously starts in goal with Marc Andre ter Stegen. The young goalkeeper hasn't been as good as he was last year, and I think that may have a lot to do with not having Dante in front of him this season. However, Gladbach will need a perfect match from him in goal if they're to win this match. He'll need help from his back four of Tony Jantschke, Alvaro Dominguez, Martin Stranzl, and Oscar Wendt. All of those guys need to play well for Gladbach to win, but none may be as important as Thorben Marx and Havard Nordtveit in the middle of the park. The two central midfielders are going to be crucial to pressuring BVB's attack before they can get free runs at the Gladbach defense and cause havoc.

Klopp has an interesting dilemma for this match. Beginning tomorrow, BVB will play five matches in fourteen days. Sunday, they're away to Borussia Mönchengladbah. Wednesday, they're away to Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the DFB Pokal. Next Saturday, they host Hannover in the league. A week from Tuesday, Shakhtar Donetsk travel to Dortmund for the second leg of their Champions League tie. Then, BVB will travel to the Veltins Arena for the second Revierderby of the season against Schalke. BVB doesn't have the deepest of squads, so Klopp's management over the next two weeks will be massively important.

Herrmann is suspended for the match due to yellow card accumulation, but his loss won't be felt as much as the other player out. Juan Arango picked up an ankle knock against Lazio midweek in the Europa League and hasn't recovered enough to feature this weekend. This is a massive loss for Gladbach. Arango has started every single league match this season at left midfield, and it'll be difficult for Gladbach to replace his left foot out there and on set pieces. The likely replacement out wide is Finnish midfielder Alexander Ring.

Out: Robert Lewandowski (suspended), Patrick Owomoyela (leg), Julian Schieber (suspended). Doubtful: Jakub Blaszczykowski (hip)

With Lewandowski and Schieber missing out due to picking up stupid red cards in recent weeks, the decision for Jürgen Klopp is an interesting one. One option getting a lot of run is to bring up Hungarian Bálint Bajner from the reserves and give him his first run out with the first team. He went with the first team to La Manga during the winter break and showed well, but there is another option. Klopp could deploy Mario Götze as a false nine and see what they can do. If Blaszczykowski is forced out due to his hip, it could force Klopp's hand into bringing up Bajner at that point.

Iker recovering from surgery dreams with getting championship this season

Iker Casillas says his recovery from the broken bone in his hand goes a lot better than expected and he might be straight back between your Real Madrid articles the moment late March.

Casillas' finger was broken by a random kick from his team-mate Alvaro Arbeloa during Madrid's Copa del Rey quarter-final recreation at the Mestalla on January 23.

It was feared he'd experience 3 months on the sidelines, and the team moved quickly to signal Diego Lopez for 3.5 million from Sevilla to perform in their likely season-defining games against Barcelona in the Copa and Manchester United in the Champions League.

The Madrid club captain told reporters on Thursday evening, at the beginning of a new club shop at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, that the initial timeframe had only been a worst-case scenario.

"I am feeling quite positive," Casillas said. "The surgeon gave me the worst-case scenario, he said it might get 90 days. But the other day when the splint was removed, I was told I had a month left. Now I am doing effective exercises to obtain freedom and power back the finger."

Casillas said he had been working hard at Madrid's Valdebebas education center to get straight back playing the moment possible.

"Until now I've maybe not had much energy in it, but I am getting it back little by little," he said. "We are at the halfway point of the damage. I have still got per month to go. I'll need to work more and experience more to get back the freedom of before. I am looking forward to returning. It's worse being off the message than on it."

The big event was also attended by Casillas' team-mates including Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso, Karim Benzema, Angel Di Maria, Jose Callejon, Nacho and Kaka, though coach Jose Mourinho was missing.

Alonso told reporters that he did not know yet whether he'd get over his groin issue in time for next Tuesday's Copa semi-final second leg at Barcelona's Camp Nou.

"I am in the recovery stage," the midfielder said. "I am trying to get better as soon as possible, to get gone the disquiet and return in top form. Lots of people ask when I'll be ready. I hope to be able to play against Barca, but I do not have a remedy right now."

Former Liverpool person Alonso said that, with the link balanced at 1-1, whoever won first in the Champions League last 16 reunite sport at Manchester United on March 5 will be favourites to advance.

"They will have the support of their fans," he said. "It will probably be a concern. The medial side that scores first is going to be favourites. Old Trafford is a superb surface and it's the type of match most of us want to play. The tie is extremely open."

Di Maria stated that it will fit Madrid to be playing abroad in both of the upcoming, possibly season-defining, activities.

"Things are going well and we hope to continue this way," he said. "We know that we have to have huge matches in both contests and that it will maybe not be easy. Perhaps playing away is going to be within our favour because we prosper when things are against us. We have had this week to work on the easiest way to approach the activities. I really hope everything goes well."

Benzema, who remains question for Saturday evening's La Liga sport at Deportivo La Coruna, said he was not focused on his current poor form facing target.

"I hope that I score more goals than I've up to now, but the important thing may be the team and to win the upcoming matches," he said. "We have to come together to win. We have a fantastic group and we're all in good form."

Ricardo Kaka performed well in the game vs La Coruna

"From the very first minute of the second half we saw a change of attitude. We didn't win because of the alternatives, which were made in the twelfth minute of the 2nd half, but because of the change we made. It was the attitude of all players that started the comeback.

"It is true that seriously he [Kaka] is playing well. He is helped by his state of mind and this is important for the staff, that he's playing well and that he's another option. That's usually good.

Kaka's performance also earned the reward of assistant mentor Aitor Karanka, who was pleased about the reaction of the group after planning behind to a Riki strike on 35 minutes.
"We knew that Deportivo weren't playing well and saw us as an opportunity to change their fortunes. However in the next half we improved our play, we scored two goals and we were able to take the three things house or apartment with us."

Before the Blaugrana surrounded out Sevilla afterwards Saturday evening, the win moved Real to within 13 points of league leaders Barcelona. Despite the margin remaining the same, Kaka feels success over Depor can improve Real's chances of claiming carpet this expression.

"I am much better. What we've nearby is fascinating and it's the decisive area of the season and if the director wants me to play I'll be there to help in those matches."

"The team is playing well and things are getting better for me personally also. In baseball anything changes quickly and I am happy to support the team win.
"[It was] an essential success in a very hard match. In the first half we were a little anxious and a few mistakes were made by us. In the 2nd half we increased and we won three points which are essential for us and for what is ahead over the next few weeks," Kaka told the club's officials website.
Real originated in behind at the Riazor, with Kaka scoring the equaliser before an 88th-minute winner was scored by Gonzalo Higuain for the readers. After putting up with a difficult cause with limited game time, Kaka now thinks he is able to help his group because they check out keep their Manhunter Liga and Champions League hopes alive.

Kaka has expressed delight at his recent change in fortunes, whilst the playmaker starred in Real Madrid's 2-1 comeback win over Deportivo Manhattan project Coruna.

Ricardo Kaka executed excellent in the game vs Deportivo

"From the very first moment of the second half we found an alteration of attitude. We didn't win because of the alternatives, that have been made in the second of the 2nd half, but because of the change we made. It was the attitude of all players that sparked the comeback.

"It holds true that honestly he [Kaka] is playing well. His state of mind helps him and this is important for the team, that he's playing well and that he is another option. That is usually positive.

Kaka's performance also received the reward of assistant coach Aitor Karanka, who was pleased about the reaction of the squad after going behind to a Riki reach on 35 minutes.
"We knew that Deportivo weren't playing well and saw us being an chance to change their fortunes. However in the 2nd half we increased our play, we scored two goals and we were able to simply take the three items house or apartment with us."

The gain moved Real to within 13 points of league leaders Barcelona, until the Blaugrana edged out Sevilla later on Saturday evening. Despite the margin remaining exactly the same, Kaka feels success over Depor can raise Real's likelihood of claiming wallpaper this period.

Arsenal vs. Bayern Munich, 2013 UEFA Champions League: Remaining...

Arsenal's hopes of growing to the Champions League quarterfinals were treated a large blow by a wild Bayern Munich at the Emirates as last year's runners-up romped to a 3-1 win. Although the match started at the very least relatively promisingly for Arsenal, who managed to give the readers a bit of a shock when Theo Walcott broke down the left side and gained a corner kick which error-prone goalkeeper Manuel Neuer made chaos of. And then... effectively, things went downhill. Bayern Munich possess an amazing variety of attacking skill, but perhaps the most remarkable is 23-year-old Toni Kroos. And it had been Kroos who opened the score eight minutes in, when the readers inundated the right side to let Thomas MAller to send a to the top of the package. Aaron Ramsey lunged for a stop but could not achieve it, and Kroos met the supply with a wonderful 20-yard energy which bounced off the Emirates lawn and buried it self in the trunk of Wojciech Szczesny's internet. The visitors weren't performed there, and Arsenal made life difficult for themselves by providing away free kicks in dangerous jobs. Daniel van Buyten found his excessively intricate free kick routine don't come off but were able to make his side a place anyway thanks to some weird defending, while Bastian Schweinsteiger's work, gained after a bad Per Mertesacker item, was deflected behind for a goalkick. With Arsenal once vulnerable on set pieces, it seemed like merely a issue of time before their rearguard was breached once more. Bayern developed an opening via the somewhat odd approach to punting long to Javi MartAnez, who beat the offside trap and forced Laurent Koscielny to concede a large part. And from said place, the visitors went 2-0. Szczesny was at the least partially the culprit. Van Buyten's near-post header was hit hard but right at the 22-year-old keeper, and although Szczesny were able to stop the picture he didn't keep it out of the danger area, nearly losing it on MAller's feet. The amazed, off-balance midfielder reacted rapidly, prodding the loose ball into the top of the web for a second away goal. A visibly disappointed Arsenal side took out their rage on Bayern's people. Bacary Sagna went in to the book for an awful foul on Kroos, and he was soon joined by Mikel Arteta whilst the former Everton man scythed down Mario Mandzukic on the Gunners' left. There were some faint signs of hope, nevertheless. Mertesacker had an attempt blocked, as did Theo Walcott a few minutes later, and there was great news when Schweinsteiger picked up a booking that will rule him out of the next leg for a on Ramsey, although a cynic might suspect he was deliberately picking up the card to reset his count. And the halftime score might have been worse -- Mandzukic must have set the visitors 3-0 up when he met Philipp Lahm's excellent distribution only to nod just wide of the article. The Gunners began the 2nd half with lots of intention, and they managed to get back to the overall game as a result of a weird Lukas Podolski purpose which saw the Germany global win a large part kick by deflecting Santi Cazorla's shot wide and nod home the set piece when Neuer elected to run around in circles beneath it for no reason after calling his own defenders off. Bayern looked relatively confused at having admitted, but the target seemed to help invigorate Arsenal and it no longer seemed entirely out of the question that they could easily get something out of the tie. But the readers were still very hazardous, and Szczesny was forced to truly save well from Kroos before a free header was hit by MartAnez just over. Arjen Robben was then cast in to the mix by Jupp Heynckes, and his first action saw him drift offside when it appeared to be Kroos would find him clear through on purpose. His 2nd was to force Podolski right into a foul, one that gained a scheduling to the goalscorer, and Ramsey got one as well when he hacked down MAller on the edge of the box. Luckily for the Welshman, Schweinsteiger's subsequent effort was hit well high. Arsenal were getting half-chances too, with the amazing Jack Wilshere and Podolski getting chances to get into the field just for the former to lose the latter and control to shoot well extensive. Then came the big chance. Tomas Rosicky sprayed an intelligent basketball out wide, and Walcott's cross was met by replacement Olivier Giroud in the middle. The superb work, nevertheless, was damaged by his shot, which was hit hard but directly at Neuer -- the goalkeeper wouldn't have already been able to hold that shot out even when he'd wanted to. And then Bayern hit again. Robben got himself isolated in the heart against erstwhile remaining straight back Thomas Vermaelen, and the winger could discover Lahm on the overlap. The subsequent combination was achieved by some tangle of Mandzukic and Sagna at the post, and the ball looped over a hopeless Szczesny and slipped to the back of the net in what seemed like slow motion. Down 3-1, Arsenal didn't give up. Wilshere immediately received yet another save out of Neuer, though like Giroud before him his vicious effort was directed by him straight at the goalkeeper when he must have done better. However the guests were clearly the greater side, and Mario Gomez very nearly made four to it when his deflection required a save from Szczesny ahead of the striker blasted the jump high and wide. This indicates unlikely that Bayern can regret Gomez's miss. After an uneventful three full minutes of harm time, the Germans came far from the Emirates having an emphatic and thoroughly earned win. Up by two with three away goals, they are all but to the quarterfinals. Follow @SBNationSoccer on Twitter

Chelsea target long Europa League run

Last season's Champions League winners Chelsea headline the four English clubs vying for a berth in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday, as several high-profile teams stare at the exit door.

Chelsea go into the second leg of their tie with Sparta Prague at Stamford Bridge holding a 1-0 advantage thanks to Oscar's late strike a week ago in the Czech capital.

"We still have to concentrate to make sure we get the right result but we're in a good position now so we have to follow it through," said midfielder Frank Lampard.

Despite the ignominy of becoming the first Champions League winners to bow out at the group stage, Lampard, who is just three goals shy of Bobby Tambling's club record tally of 202, insisted more European success was still firmly on Chelsea's radar.

Three-time UEFA Cup winners Liverpool will need to overturn a two-goal deficit against 2008 UEFA Cup winners Zenit St Petersburg to prevent a premature end to their European campaign at Anfield.

Two stunning free-kicks from the Wales international handed Spurs a slender advantage and the Londoners stressed this week their approach would remain the same at Stade Gerland.

Newcastle will be greeted by sub-zero temperatures as they make the trip to Kharkiv for their second-leg fixture against Metalist.

Alan Pardew's men were left to rue their profligacy as they were held to a goalless stalemate by the Ukrainian outfit last time out.

Two goals from Rodrigo Palacio at the San Siro helped Inter Milan to a 2-0 first-leg advantage over Romanian side CFR Cluj, but a steep task awaits holders Atletico Madrid in Russia after the Spaniards suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Rubin Kazan.

Italian title challengers Napoli must overturn a three-goal deficit away to Czech league leaders Viktoria Plzen if they are to progress, a feat never achieved before in the Europa League.

AC Milan v Hamilton Academical Barcelona - The Gooners Manual

Milan, who last won the European Cup in 2007, used Barca to a sketch at Camp Nou in September 2011, they also drew the first leg of the last-eight clash before the Spanish league leaders went on to get the tie 3-1. But this Milan group is just third in Serie A and have not satisfied all season! Allegri appreciates that Barcelona thus must attempt to reduce their possession and are extremely dangerous once they are going forward. He also stressed that the group needs to have the certainty that they can go through to the next round and if fortune is on their side the quarter-finals can be made by them. It's to be stated that Barcelona have already been crowned European champions 3 times in the last seven times and are massive favourites to make the final, but forward Pedro was cautious prior to the situations with Milan. He was quoted as stating that Milan have been a side simply because they have a lot of history and have dangerous people within their side. They have to be vigilant in defence. And upfront Messi will soon be based upon to get the objectives. The Asian Handicap of -1 1/4 reaches first glance appears rather large to clear on the element of Barcelona, But, it ought to be mentioned that Lionel Messi is with the capacity of scoring goals in pairs and also hat-tricks. Whenever you take into account what happened yesterday where house edge actually did not come into play as in the event of Arsenal where the group won on the night, exactly the same can be expected of Barcelona who will just be too powerful for Milan. Therefore, Allegri has proved his defence will consist of Kevin Constant, Cristian Zapata, Philippe Mexes and Ignazio Abate, while Riccardo Montolivo will start in midfield. Barcelona Team News :Barcelona have already been increased by Xavi's availability for the game after the midfielder's fitness was evaluated in teaching on Monday. But, David Villa has been put aside as he continues to recuperate from kidney stones while Adriano has not sailed due to a hamstring injury. Milan 1-3 Barcelona
